I'm in my last trimester of my graduate program. I have been through foundations, ethics, project design, school design, leadership fieldwork and the ever-present inquiry into practice (or in other words, masters' research class). I'm currently in school budgeting with school law to follow. The classes have been a great combination of theory that gets played out in practice at my residency. (Each cohort member is positioned alongside a director/principal for the full year.) But while all of this plays out, I think leadership always comes back to relationships. I have built relationships with the director and staff at my residency site that have allowed me to look deeper at peer learning and leading. I have built relationships with my cohort members that I imagine will last a lifetime and will serve as valuable touchstones as I approach leadership celebrations and challenges to come. I have built relationships with students during times of adversity and times of achievement. All of these relationships and experiences will affect how I help guide the work in my future roles. So as I write today I think about how all learning is some form of a relationship; a bonding with content, knowledge and skills along with how we learn to relate to others through shared experiences. Well, back to my "real" studying and writing...
