This class focused on the 1st, 4th and 14th Amendments to understand, respectively, how the rights of free speech, search and seizure, and student conduct and due process apply to various scenarios that play out daily in schools across the country. As a school leader it is important to understand the balance of student and school rights to ensure the safety and well-being of the school community.
The class involved conducting mock trials and examining case studies with relevant case law to gain an appreciation of the complexities and viewpoints of the participants. We also practiced conducting student searches and investigations into possible misconduct through role play.
